Verhaal van een Australische lotgenoot

Het verhaal van Ally Hoyle:
“””

Hi all, I don’t usually post on social media, but given today is my anniversary of being diagnosed with PMP I thought I’d share.
15 years ago today after a routine hernia repair I was diagnosed with PMP. I was given the news at the nurses’ station by a surgical intern. Quoting, “Mr Hoyle if I had a Cancer like yours I’d want to stay in hospital and have more tests”.

After the initial shock I had another 2 debulking surgeries and 30 weeks of IV chemo in Canberra before a chance meeting with Professor David Morris.
Since meeting Prof, I’ve had another 15 surgical procedures including 6 x MOAS with HIPEC (two via Thoracotomy). The first of my Prof Morris surgeries lasted almost 23 hours with 67 days as an inpatient on 5 West at St George Hospital.

I know we all have a few bad days (especially while waiting for surgical dates and follow-up results), but if you focus on the hard times you’ll miss out on the good times.
If it wasn’t for PMP I wouldn’t be the person that I am today, I also wouldn’t have met and married my beautiful wife in 2010 or been given the opportunity to father my amazing children in 2011 and 2015.

I would like to thank everyone at St George hospital for the care and support provided over my years of treatment. I wish good luck to everyone affected by our insidious disease and offer my support to anyone that may need it.
